Lawn care and weekly maintenance
Weekly mowing, edging and blow-off through the season. Same crew, same day each week, from our Mount Kisco base.
What does weekly lawn service include?
Most accounts run April through November on a fixed day. The same crew returns each week and learns where the sprinkler heads sit and which beds to stay out of.
Cut height changes with the season. We raise the deck in summer to reduce stress and lower it in fall before dormancy.
On a typical visit:
- Mow at a height suited to the season
- Edge beds, walks and the driveway apron
- String trim around trees, fences and utilities
- Blow hard surfaces clean
- Note problems we see: grub damage, broken heads, drainage washouts
How we mow
A lawn is cut, not torn. Blades are kept sharp because a dull blade shreds the leaf tip and the whole lawn silvers a few days later. We take no more than a third of the height in any single cut, and we alternate direction week to week so the turf is not pushed flat into the same ruts all season.
Clippings go back into the lawn unless growth is heavy enough to smother it, because they return nitrogen the lawn would otherwise need as fertilizer. After a wet week, when one cut would take too much, the answer is a higher deck now and a second pass later, not one brutal cut.
The season, month by month
April opens fast here. Cool-season turf comes out of dormancy growing harder than it will all year, and for a few weeks weekly can barely keep up.
By July the same lawn wants the opposite: a taller cut that shades roots and holds moisture through heat. Cutting short in a Westchester August is how lawns brown in a week. Growth slows, and we cut what the lawn needs rather than mowing for the sake of the truck being there.
September and October pull the deck back down ahead of leaf drop and dormancy, and the season hands off to fall clean-up. Aeration and overseeding land in this window, when the soil is warm, the air is cool and the weeds have quit for the year.
What the crew notices before you do
The quiet value of the same crew walking the property every week is that problems are seen at week one instead of month two.
Things a weekly crew catches early:
- Grub damage. Turf that lifts like carpet in late summer, before the raccoons and skunks make it obvious.
- Fungus. Patches and threads after humid stretches, when treating early is cheap.
- Irrigation problems. A stuck zone or broken head shows as one soggy stripe or one dry arc in the cut.
- Drainage washouts. Bedding stone or mulch out of place after storms, caught before the lawn starts dying in a stripe.
- Deer and vole pressure. Browse lines and runway trails, flagged before beds are lost.
Every job here starts the same way: a twenty-minute walkthrough and a written price.
Seasonal add-ons
Spring and fall clean-ups are scheduled separately from weekly mowing. Core aeration and overseeding usually run together in early fall when seed can germinate without fighting summer weeds.
We can add feeding, grub treatment and one-time resets for properties that got ahead of the owner over winter.
Property fit and how to start
Weekly mowing works best on lawns with reasonable access for our equipment. Heavy shade, steep slopes and tight gates may need a different plan, and we will say that on the walkthrough.

Common questions
If yours is not here, call (914) 486-3682. Someone answers seven days a week.
Weekly mowing is priced from the property, not from a rate card, because two lawns of the same acreage can take very different time. Turf area is the starting point, then the things that slow a crew down: trimming length around beds, fences and trees, slopes that need a walk-behind instead of a rider, gates that decide which machines fit, and how much hard surface needs blowing off. Extras like aeration, overseeding and grub treatment are quoted separately so the weekly number stays clean. Nelson looks at the property once, writes down what happens on every visit and what costs extra, and that is the arrangement, with no season-long contract required. The visit takes a few minutes and the estimate is free.
Yes. It is Baudi's own crew, not a subcontractor. They learn the property and flag problems when they see them.
No. Most clients run weekly through the season, but we also do one-time mows and spring resets.
Usually not. Cut at the right height and frequency, clippings feed the lawn and disappear into it. We bag when growth is too heavy to leave, or when a client asks.
The route slides a day rather than mowing soil that will rut. The same crew still comes, just late. In a soaked week we may raise the deck and take the difference off the next visit.
Yes, and it happens every summer, usually after another service stopped showing up. The first visit is a reset rather than a normal mow: an overgrown lawn cannot be cut straight down to schedule height without scalping it, so we take the excess off at a higher deck setting, then step the height down over the next visit or two until it is back on program. While we are there we note the things a returning crew needs to know, such as sprinkler head locations, soft spots, and beds to stay out of. After that you are on the normal weekly rotation with the same crew each time. Call (914) 486-3682 and the reset visit can usually happen within the week.
